Vale Park in Aylesbury will be bursting with fun activities on 1 August in support of National Playday.

National Playday is the biggest annual celebration of play in the country and Vale Park will be hosting arts and crafts activities, sporting events, inflatable fun and much more to mark the day in Aylesbury.

Toddlers, children and young people are all catered for at Play in the Park, which is organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council’s leisure team. Other attractions at the event this year will include circus and Umbanda drum workshops, pedal go-karts, street art and giant inflatables including a bouncy castle, obstacle course and the Mix 96 slide.

Playday involves more than 100,000 children taking part in hundreds of activities throughout the UK, from big public events to small gatherings. The day is partly about giving children and families a great day out, but also aims to get across some serious messages about the importance of play.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Play is vital to the physical, mental and social development of children and the national Playday helps to promote its benefits while giving children a great day of fun as well. Play in the Park will be a fantastic event for all the family to enjoy, with parents encouraged to join in the fun with their children. We have some great sports facilities at the park that visitors can try and a wide variety of entertainment for everyone.”

The fun takes place from 11am to 3pm and admission to the event is free. All children are welcome to join in with the activities but youngsters under the age of 11 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The council is also hosting a series of free play activities for children throughout the district this summer. Play workers will be bringing a bouncy castle, crafts, sports and games to village recreation grounds and playing fields across the Vale during the school holidays. Visit the council’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/doit or call 01296 585188 for further details.

In addition, there will be playschemes in Aylesbury and Wing for children to enjoy. To book your child’s place, please call 01296 426139.

Copies of the packed ‘Do-It Summer’ school holiday programme of activities are available from tourist information offices and council offices. Alternatively you can download a copy from www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/doit or telephone 01296 585210 and a copy will be sent to you.
