Aylesbury Vale District Council is inviting local parishes to host classical concerts in their own communities.

The council’s ‘Music in Quiet Places’ programme brings professional classical concerts to churches in villages all around the district.

More than 450 people attended this year’s concerts and enjoyed performances from some of the most distinguished musicians in the UK. Many residents also took part in free guided walks led by local historians before each performance.

AVDC is now planning next year’s programme and is encouraging local parishes to apply to host a concert. Each parish will be responsible for providing hospitality for the musicians, finding someone to lead an historical village walk before the concert, promotion of the performance and selling tickets.

The concert programme takes place in late spring/early summer each year and 20 per cent of all box office sales go towards the local church or community funds. Parishes are welcome to organise raffles and refreshments to increase this income.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “It’s great that people have the chance to see professional performances in their own villages. There are so many talented musicians who take part in these entertaining concerts, it would be a shame if everyone did not have the chance to see them. I would encourage local parishes to take this opportunity to give residents the chance to enjoy the experience of having great classical music on their doorstep.”

If your parish is interested in hosting a concert next year, please call Lyndsay Elliott on 01296 585310 or email lelliott@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
