An exciting street festival comes to Aylesbury’s town centre on 28 July heralding a month and more of innovative performances in the heart of the town.

The ninth annual Aylesbury Street Festival has been organised by Aylesbury Town Council in partnership with AVDC to boost trade in the town centre and will feature acts from all over the world.

Five weeks of free entertainment kick off at 11.30am next Saturday morning in Market Square with The Blackriver Band, known as one of the best European bands performing music of the Balkan peninsula, and close with a stunning performance of South African Township Jazz by Mbawula on 1 September.

Other highlights of the festival include:
• Parisian street music from Les Onions (4 August)
• The chance to step inside the smallest opera house in the world when the OperaPlayhouse theatre company bring their intimate show to Kingsbury Square (11 August)
• A performance by Solid Steel, a professional steel band comprising of some of the finest pan players in the UK today (18 August)
• A local bands day featuring some of the best up-and-coming bands from the district (25 August)

Councillor David Thompson, AVDC Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The year’s festival promises to be the biggest and best yet with a superb range of performances for people of all ages and tastes. It will help attract people to the town centre and demonstrate what an attractive and buzzing market we have in Aylesbury.”

Mayor of Aylesbury, Councillor Jenny Puddefoot, said. “During the period of Aylesbury’s redevelopment and regeneration, this series of events will be an added attraction for residents and non-residents alike, making each and every trip to the town centre an enjoyable treat. We hope to welcome more visitors than ever this year and the entertainment on offer should help to bring them back time and again.”

All the performances will begin at 11.30am and 1pm each Saturday by the John Hampden statue at the top of Market Square with the exception of the OperaPlayhouse show which will be held in Kingsbury Square.
