AVDC Environmental Health Officers and a team from the street cleansing and refuse collection service are today busy in Buckingham, helping to start the clear-up process after the weekend floods.

Environmental Health Officers are visiting properties affected by the floods to give advice and information about a range of issues which people are understandably concerned about – including what needs to be done to get electricity supply safely re-connected.

A team from the council’s refuse collection service is also visiting properties to remove with the owner’s permission, items of furniture and property which has been damaged by flood water. The service is being provided free of charge today and tomorrow. Footpaths and streets are also being cleaned up as the water levels recede.

John Cartwright, Leader of the Council, said: “This is devastating for people who have been affected and we’re doing what we can to help. Although the situation is slowly improving, clearly there is still a way to go before life can fully return to normal. We’re working with the Town Council to see what other assistance we can offer, especially over the next few days.”
