The Active England project will be hosting a range of activities at Southcourt Community Centre just for girls throughout the summer holidays.

Every Tuesday from 1.45pm to 4pm, girls aged 11 to 16 will be able to come along and take part in the activity of the week.

The fun will include adrenalin pumping activities such as street dance, volleyball and trampolining to the more calming and relaxing yoga and hair and make-up sessions. There will be the chance to show off creative talents in t-shirt design, creative writing and illustration, and girls can even practise their beauty skills during the hair and make-up styling day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for girls to beat the boredom of school holidays, meet new friends and have a go at new activities that they otherwise might not get the opportunity to try.

The summer programme starts on Tuesday 24 July and will run for the duration of the school holidays. The cost of attending each week is £1.50 and there is no need to book.

The Active England project works with local partners, such as Aylesbury Vale District Council, in Southcourt and Walton Court. Working with all members of the community, to increase the amount of physical activity they are doing, the project is funded by AVDC and Sport England.

The idea for the ‘Girls Gettin Active’ initiative came from research about the amount of physical activity girls are doing between the ages of 11 to 16 compared with boys.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The idea behind the project is to create positive experiences of physical sport by providing fun and innovative activities that the girls can take part in throughout the summer holidays.”

For more information about the summer programme, drop into the Healthy Living Centre at Walton Court or telephone Abbi McMullen on 01296 431580.
