Young people will have no excuse for boredom during the long summer break thanks to a host of exciting holiday activities in Aylesbury Vale.

Comedy workshops, filmmaking, skateboarding and street dancing are just some of the activities on offer for youngsters during the school summer holidays.

Aylesbury Vale District Council and a number of partner organisations have put together an action-packed programme of events catering for all tastes.

The activities, which kick off on Monday 23 July, run until the beginning of September and take place across the Vale. There are a number of free activities available and events have been lined up for younger children as well as teenagers.

The ‘Do-It Summer’ activities booklet, which can also be downloaded at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/doit, features all the events including dates, times, locations and prices. The booklet also contains details of a competition where young people between the ages of 13 and 19 have the chance to win one of four £50 vouchers to be spent in any shop in Aylesbury’s Friars Square shopping centre.

Local schools have already been contacted about the programme of activities and parents are now being encouraged to book places for their children as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Traditional sports like athletics, cricket, football and rugby will be available and young people can also try their hand at more adventurous activities, such as mountain biking and low ropes courses.

In addition, there will be opportunities for young people to practice their skateboarding skills at the mobile skate park which is touring villages across the district, learn some of the coolest dance moves around under expert tuition at the Civic Centre, or take part in discounted swimming sessions at Aqua Vale.

However, it’s not all frantic activity. Arts sessions are being organised to give young people the chance to try a variety of different activities ranging from stand-up comedy and pop singing to filmmaking and digital photography.

Younger children can join one of the playschemes in Aylesbury or Wing, visit one of the many village play days, or attend a free entertainment show in their local community centre or village hall.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The summer programme provides a great range of activities to suit young people of all ages and with all kinds of interests. Finding things for children to do during the summer break isn’t easy, so we’ve put all our summer activities into one convenient booklet that makes it easy for parents to see what’s on offer. Families will be spoilt for choice with our programme of activities and I’m sure many young people will take advantage of the exciting things on offer.”

Copies of the packed ‘Do-It Summer’ programme are available from schools throughout the district as well as tourist information offices and council offices. Alternatively you can download a copy from the council’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/doit or telephone 01296 585210 and a copy will be sent to you.
