Nearly 130 trees are to be planted across Aylesbury Vale this winter as part of the district council’s annual tree planting programme.
AVDC is proposing to plant about 100 trees in Aylesbury, while the rest will be distributed around Buckingham and Tingewick. People living in the vicinities of the suggested planting areas (listed below) are being invited to comment on the plans.
Local residents were given the chance to have their say on what trees they would like to see planted as part of a consultation carried out last year. The responses favoured the planting of native, broad-leaved, flowering trees with good autumn colour so the council is proposing to plant many cherry, oak, birch and wild service trees this year.
Last year more than 160 trees were planted in various locations in Aylesbury, Buckingham, Stoke Hammond and Winslow at a cost of £25,000. The scheme was part-funded by a £1 million grant from the Department for Communities & Local Government to improve parks and open spaces in the district.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Protecting the environment for generations to come is one of the council’s top priorities. Our aim is to introduce a wide range of trees of all ages to improve the appearance of open spaces and create a better environment for wildlife. Not only would we like to hear from residents about the coming winter’s tree planting, but we’d also like to receive suggestions for new plantings in the following winter.”
The tree planting consultation is available on the council’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/trees or you can request a copy by calling 01296 585368. The consultation period will run until 31 August.
The suggested sites for tree planting are:
Aylesbury: Goya Place and Rembrandt End; Haydon Road and Abbey Road; Wingate Walk and Northfield Road; Howard Avenue; Bedgrove Road and Stratton Green; Ingram Avenue; Cambourne Avenue, Our Lady or Lourdes Church; Studland Close
Buckingham: Elm Street and Church Hill; Hilltop Avenue
Tingewick: The Maltings
