New fashion trends could be set when unwanted materials and items are transformed into stunning outfits by schools in Aylesbury Vale.

AVDC’s annual Recycled Clothes Show will show local residents a creative way to reuse and recycle rubbish.

Students from Aylesbury High School, Mandeville School and John Colet School will be up on the catwalk modelling fashions from waste materials on 28 June at the Civic Centre in Aylesbury.

Secondary school pupils were invited to create their own outfits from materials which would otherwise be thrown away, such as textiles, plastics and paper, then parade them on the catwalk. Each outfit will be judged by a panel on recycled content, creativity and workmanship, and winners and runners up will be awarded prizes.

There’ll also be a separate competition for recycled accessories, such as eye-catching belts and sparkly tiaras, created by local junior and combined schools.

In addition, a chain-mail suit made out of scrap materials will be on display in the main auditorium. The costume was created by children, with help from local artists ‘The Bag Ladies’, during the Junior Art Attack event at the Civic Centre earlier this year.

Councillor Sir Beville Stanier, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, said: “The environment is a key issue and we all have to learn to ease the drain on our resources by recycling wherever we can. This fashion show is an excellent example of how we can reuse rubbish if we think creatively. It saves materials going to landfill and challenges what we think of as waste.”

Tickets to the show, which starts at 7pm, cost £3 and can be bought at the Civic Centre Box Office or on the phone on 01296 585548.
