The latest in a series of improvements to Aylesbury’s parking service is set to be rolled out with the introduction of parking scratch cards aimed at making it easier for people to park in the town.
There are two types of card available – purple for up to five hours, and green for all day parking. All you have to do is scratch off the date of your visit and – if you have a purple scratch card – your arrival time to the nearest five minutes, and leave it in your windscreen.
The new scratch cards will be available for a range of AVDC car parks and can be purchased from the council’s cashiers at 66 High Street, Aylesbury, from 14 May. Alternatively, you can contact the council’s parking services office where you can pay over the phone and the cards are posted to you.
Prices for scratch cards range from £2.50 to £8 and customers can buy as many as they need. The car park that you wish to use the scratch card in must be written on the card when purchased.
Stephen Harding, Parking Services Manager, said: “If you are one of those people who never seems to have enough change for parking, then our new scratch cards may be just what you need. The scratch card system can save you time when you’re in a hurry and makes the parking process a bit easier.
“The council has shown over recent months that it is willing to make changes in order to improve the parking service as far as possible. We are always keen to listen to people’s views and will continue in that same vein.”
A new fee structure for car parks in Aylesbury town centre, which should help part-time workers and shoppers, will also come into effect on 14 May.
Car park fees have usually been set for short-stay car parks and long-stay. AVDC has now introduced an additional five-hour rate to allow part-time workers and shoppers a cheaper parking option close to the town centre.
The five-hour rate will apply to all short-stay and some long-stay car parks, although tariffs will differ depending on which car park you choose.
Exchange Street, Hampden House, Canalside and Whitehall Street will apply a £2.50 charge for parking up to five hours and £4 for parking all day. The full day rate at Walton Street, Walton Green and Friarscroft will remain unchanged at £3.
In addition, the Hale Street car park will be restricted to a maximum one-hour only stay and seven bays on the ground floor of the Civic Centre car park will be for 30 minute parking only, at a cost of 40p.
