The Conservatives gained seven seats and retained control of Aylesbury Vale District Council in yesterday’s (3 May) local election.

The party won 37 seats overall, making gains in Bedgrove, Coldharbour, Haddenham, Mandeville and Elm Farm, Marsh Gibbon and Steeple Claydon.

The Liberal Democrats won 21 seats in the district, making gains in Bierton and Elmhurst and Watermead but losing seats in Bedgrove, Coldharbour, Haddenham, Mandeville and Elm Farm and Marsh Gibbon. The Independents retained one seat in Wingrave.

The results mean that the political composition of Aylesbury Vale District Council is now 37 Conservative seats, 21 Liberal Democrat seats, and one Independent councillor.

Turnout for this election was 39.5 per cent. This compares with the turnout of 33.8 per cent four years ago.

Stewkley was the only ward that wasn’t contested at a district level – with Councillor Janet Blake returned unopposed to represent the ward for the next electoral term.

The new councillors will formally take up their seats on 7 May. The annual meeting of Aylesbury Vale District Council is on 24 May.

The results of the district and parish council elections were posted live onto AVDC’s website and can be found at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/elections
