Three charities are set to receive a cash windfall from the Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council.

Councillor Sue Polhill will distribute the proceeds of her charity account after raising £9,021 over the past 12 months in her role as the first citizen of the district.

A number of events were held during the year including a visit to the set of Hotel Babylon, the popular BBC TV series filmed near Aylesbury, a St George’s Day Dinner at Aylesbury College and charity dinners at Judges Lodgings and Halton House. Money was also raised through the Christmas pantomime held at the Civic Centre.

This year the Chairman’s three chosen charities – the Cancer Care and Haematology Fund at Stoke Mandeville, Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust, and Chilterns MS Centre – will each be handed a cheque for £3,007.

During her two years in office, Councillor Polhill has raised a total of £16,161. She will step down as Chairman following the cheque presentation at the annual meeting of the council on 24 May.

Councillor Polhill said: “I’m delighted that these very worthwhile charities have been able to benefit from my time in office, during which I was superbly supported by Vice Chairman, Councillor Netta Glover and the Chairman’s PA, Mrs Sally Missen. I would like to thank all the people who have attended the events enabling us to raise the money for the charities over the past two years and to all the local businesses who have been so generous in giving prizes and monetary donations. I know the money will be put to good use helping these valuable organisations.”
