Young people who attend the Jonathan Page Playcentre in Aylesbury are set to benefit from a sleek new 15-seater minibus.

The new minibus has been provided by Aylesbury Vale District Council and will be used to transport youngsters to the playcentre’s popular after school club. It will collect schoolchildren from the Bedgrove and Turnfurlong schools during term time and provide a safe and comfortable journey for its passengers.

The vehicle has been purchased to comply with the latest passenger transport regulations and can be easily spotted due to its colourful and distinctive Jonathan Page Playcentre livery.

The new minibus was officially launched by Councillor Netta Glover, Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council, and Spike the Road Safety Hedgehog today (26 October). Spike was visiting the playcentre to teach the children about staying safe on the roads.

In addition to the minibus service, schoolchildren are collected from the Thomas Hickman and Haydon Abbey schools on foot and escorted to the playcentre. All the staff have received road safety training and share their traffic awareness skills with the pupils. Both children and staff wear high visibility vests during the walk.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “This vehicle replaces an old minibus which was coming to the end of its life. It is a big improvement in terms of both safety and comfort. We are delighted with it.”

After school sessions at the Jonathan Page Playcentre in Meadowcroft provide an opportunity for young people to make friends and chill out after a busy day at school. There is a wide variety of equipment and activities for all ages both inside the playcentre and in the secure play area outside.

Young people between the ages of five and 13 are welcome to attend the after school club, which currently has places available. The play service offers excellent value for money and has recently received a good Ofsted inspection report.
