Community groups across Aylesbury Vale are in the money after more than £45,000 was awarded from Aylesbury Vale District Council’s project grant fund.
Seven community groups and organisations have been awarded funding in the latest round of grant awards for projects that enhance and develop facilities for the local community and improve the quality of life for residents.
Each year the council provides more than £100,000 worth of project grant funding to support voluntary organisations, clubs, societies and parish councils.
The following groups have all benefited from the latest grants:
• Stewkley Village Hall – £20,000 to assist with the costs of refurbishing the building
• North Marston and Granborough Community Sports Field –£7,700 to contribute towards the costs of improving the playing field
• Stewkley Tennis Club – £4,500 to help with the cost of resurfacing tennis courts to ensure a safe playing environment
• Swanbourne Playing Fields – £4,500 to assist with the costs of refurbishing the children’s play area
• Great Horwood Football Club – £4,500 to contribute towards the costs of improving football pitch drainage and extending the clubhouse to include indoor toilets and storage facilities
• Whitchurch Parish Council – £2,640 to help pay for the first children’s play area in the village
• Ickford Village Hall – £1,750 towards the replacement of roof shingles to ensure that the building is weather proofed for years to come
In general, the council can make grants of up to £5,000 (or 30 per cent of the total project cost, whichever is the lower), although some larger capital funding is available. To be eligible to apply, groups must be formally constituted, not-for-profit and operate within Aylesbury Vale, for the benefit of either residents or visitors to the area.
Councillor Pam Pearce, Cabinet Member for Community Matters, said: “By giving these grants and supporting local groups the council hopes to develop projects and community activities that meet a need locally. I would encourage others to come forward and make applications to see if there is a way the council can help fulfil their plans.”
The next deadline for applications is 25 October and recommendations on who will receive a grant and the amount awarded will be made by the grants panel on 19 November. For application forms or more information, call Anne Vujanic on 01296 585186 or email avujanic@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
