A major fundraising initiative has been announced by the Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council.
Two local charities will benefit from a campaign that will run throughout Councillor Netta Glover’s term of office.
One of the most important roles the Chairman has is to raise lots of money for her chosen charities. This year, the Chairman will be raising funds for the Scannappeal’s HeartScan Appeal for Stoke Mandeville Hospital and for the Friends of Bierton Hill.
Scannappeal raises money for life-saving medical equipment for hospitals in Buckinghamshire. Councillor Glover will be supporting the charity’s latest appeal to raise £125,000 for specialist scanning equipment for cardiac services at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
This equipment will mean a 50 per cent increase in the number of patients that can be assessed for heart disease. The digital images that are produced can then be shared with specialists at other hospitals.
Councillor Glover’s second charity is the Friends of Bierton Hill. This group raises money to provide extra equipment and social events for the Bierton Hill Resource Centre, which caters for adults with learning disabilities.
Planning is underway on a series of fundraising events for the Chairman’s charities, including a dinner at the Judges’ Lodgings, Aylesbury, in November and a St George’s Day dinner at Aylesbury College on 23 April 2008.
Councillor Netta Glover, Chairman of the Council, said: “The choice was difficult because there are many worthwhile charities in Aylesbury Vale but I hope people will agree that I have chosen two very important causes which will be of great benefit locally. I’d urge the people of Aylesbury Vale to give generously to my chosen charities or organise fundraising events to help these very worthy causes with their excellent work.”
Scannappeal Chairman, Bryan Rigby, said: “We are delighted that the Chairman has chosen to support Scannappeal’s new fundraising appeal for Stoke Mandeville Hospital for equipment which will help prevent strokes and heart failure, particularly as around 50,000 people in the Buckinghamshire area suffer from cardiac disease each year.”
Anyone who has any fundraising ideas, or would like to make a donation to the Chairman’s charities, can do so by contacting the Chairman’s office on 01296 585009 or email smissen@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
Local people who wish to support the Scannappeal HeartScan Appeal with their own fundraising activities can contact the Scannappeal team on 01494 734161. They can give help and advice, and also provide information on the Christmas card range and events that are due to take place this autumn and winter.
