A new £40,000 play area in Aylesbury has been officially opened.

Young resident Oliver Wright cut a ribbon with Councillor Netta Glover, Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council, to mark the official launch of the play facility in Bateman Drive on 7 August.

AVDC funded the project and worked closely with the local community in the planning and design of the new facility.

The play area contains a range of exciting and eye-catching play equipment for both toddlers and children up to 12 years of age. Features include swings, a spinning bowl, trim trail and climbing frames.

The area is fenced off to prevent dogs from fouling and safety surfacing surrounds the play equipment.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Parents and children have been involved in this project from start to finish. They now have a fantastic facility which they should enjoy for years to come.”

More new play areas in Aylesbury are on the way thanks to a £300,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund. Somerville Way will get a new play area later this year, as will the Edinburgh Playing Fields. A new facility in Carlton Close is due to open next year.
