Taster sessions of Olympic sports will be offered

With the Beijing Olympic Games now in full swing, Aylesbury Vale District Council is offering children and young people an opportunity to take part in a sporting showcase day.

The Olympic Sports Showcase will provide a range of fun sporting challenges for youngsters in Aylesbury town centre on 15 August. Activities on offer will include football and tennis challenges, as well as multi-sports and athletics skills coaching.

There will also be information about the wide range of sporting activities available in the Aylesbury Vale area after school, at weekends and during school holidays.

Councillor Michael Edmonds, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “From now on we plan to take every possible opportunity in using the 2012 London Games to inspire children and young people to take part in sport and physical activity. I hope many youngsters will come along to enjoy these free sessions and get a flavour of what’s to come over the next four years.”

The taster day in Kingsbury begins at 10am, finishing at 4pm. The sessions are free and open to children of all ages and abilities.

Forthcoming Olympic-themed events include a celebration of disability sport and arts in Aylesbury town centre on 17 September and a free day of sport at leisure centres in the Vale on 20 September.
