Almost £25,000 has been approved to support community and voluntary activities across Aylesbury Vale.

Seven local organisations received funding in the latest round of project grants awarded by Aylesbury Vale District Council.

The grants programme aims to provide local community and voluntary groups with vital cash injections to bring about new or improved community facilities, activities or projects.

Among the successful groups was the Ashendon Playing Fields Association, which received a grant of £5,500 towards a brand new multi-purpose sports pavilion. AVDC has provided a significant amount of funding through the Community Chest and project grant funds to help make this project a reality.

A grant of £5,500 has also been awarded to Buckingham Athletic Sports and Social Club towards the refurbishment of their clubhouse. The grants panel said the club had presented “a very well researched project with a clear plan to refurbish the facility using sustainable materials and energy efficient design to meet increased demand and enable wider community usage”.

The Halton-based Chilterns MS Centre has received £3,500 to pay for new computer equipment to support the training and development of staff and increase volunteer involvement in the organisation’s activities.

Other organisations to benefit from funding include Foxhill Bowls Club – granted £3,000 towards more energy efficient lighting and improved heating; Ickford Parish Council – awarded £2,286 to re-sit play equipment in the village to improve accessibility; Jigsaw Theatre Company – granted £2,200 to perform a new production at theatres and daycentres; and Brill Parish Council – given £2,100 to provide new play equipment for children.

Councillor Pam Pearce, Cabinet Member for Community Matters, said: “Small grants really can make a big difference to groups and can be the final piece in the jigsaw when it comes to funding a project. I’m delighted that we have been able to award these seven organisations with funds so that they continue with their initiatives and developments.”

Groups who provide community facilities or activities can apply for funding for projects that improve the range or quality of the service they provide, community buildings or equipment, as well as training and development for staff and volunteers. Generally, grants will be awarded for up to 30 per cent of the cost of the project, to a maximum of £5,000, although a limited number of larger grants are available for significant capital projects.
