More of Winslow may be included in the town’s conservation area under new plans from Aylesbury Vale District Council.
As part of a review of the conservation area, the council is looking at changing the existing boundary to include a section of late 19th and early 20th century housing along the High Street, Buckingham Road and Station Road.
A public exhibition has been arranged to give local residents the opportunity to comment on the proposals. The exhibition will take place on 13 September between 10am and 3pm at St. Laurence Hall, Market Square, where residents will be able to talk to a conservation officer and examine copies of the appraisal document.
Conservation areas are of special architectural or historic interest. Buildings inside a conservation area are subject to stricter planning rules than those outside. Other features such as trees also benefit from greater protection within these areas.
Councillor Sue Polhill, Cabinet Member for Planned Development, said: “There are changes proposed to the Winslow conservation area to include more of the town. The review gives local people an opportunity to tell us what they think about the boundary alterations we have identified so far. Once approved the appraisal will provide a useful guide for residents, property owners, developers and planners to ensure that the character and appearance of the area can be preserved and enhanced for future generations.”
The appraisal can be viewed online or members of the public can view the document at the council’s offices in Aylesbury or Winslow.
Written comments must be received by 26 September. Responses will then be reported to the council’s cabinet later in the year before a final decision is taken on whether to adopt the proposed boundary changes.
