New play facilities at Dunsham Park

State-of-the-art play facilities have been officially opened at Aylesbury’s Dunsham Park.

The play facilities comprise of a new football and basketball court and a refurbished children’s play area, developed by Aylesbury Vale District Council.

The £95,000 project was made possible with grant aid from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

AVDC’s green spaces team worked closely with the local community in the planning and design of the new facilities.

Around £40,000 was spent on the refurbishment of the play area, with new exciting equipment for two to 12-year-olds. The £40,000 all-weather games court aims to cater for youngsters of all ages and adults.

In addition to the new play facilities, further site improvements have also taken place which included the installation of new paths and seating.

The Dunsham Park project is the latest in a series of play improvements across Aylesbury over the past 12 months. Teenage play facilities have been installed at Bedgrove Park and Oakfield Road and children’s play areas at Turnfurlong and Edinburgh Playing Fields have benefited from new play equipment.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “I am delighted that the community in Elmhurst and Watermead will be able to enjoy the benefits of these fantastic new facilities. Many people have worked long and hard to see this project come to fruition, and it will be marvellous to see youngsters enjoying what’s on offer in the park. This is an example of how we are working towards making a difference to the lives of children and young people in the Vale.”

Aylesbury Vale District Council Chairman, Councillor Netta Glover, officially opened the new play facilities at Dunsham Park (formerly known as Cleveland Field) on 12 December.
