Four post offices in the Vale are earmarked for closure
Aylesbury Vale District Council is inviting residents to give views on the government’s plans to restructure the post office network.
Under proposals announced on 8 July, four post offices in the Vale would close in the coming months. The branches under threat are in Gawcott, Padbury, Preston Bissett and Twyford.
The recommendations are part of a national review which will see 2,500 post office branches across the country earmarked for closure. The Post Office Ltd is now seeking the views of local people before any final decisions are made.
Councillor Pam Pearce, Cabinet Member for Community Matters, said: “The closure of post offices can have very serious effects on local communities. Post offices offer a vital service, particularly for elderly people who may be less mobile and for people on lower incomes.
“It is vitally important that local communities take this opportunity to have their say on the proposals. This is the last and only chance for people to have any input to the final closure decisions.”
To respond to the consultation, people should write to: National Consultation Team, Post Office Ltd, Freepost Consultation Team or email: consultation@postoffice.co.uk or call 08457 223344. The deadline for comments is 26 August.
