Aylesbury Vale collected four gold, three silver and three bronze awards

Aylesbury Vale youngsters scooped an impressive total of ten medals at this year’s Bucks Youth Games.

The delighted youngsters collected four gold, three silver and three bronze awards for their efforts at the annual all-day sporting event against four other local authority areas in Buckinghamshire.

More than 1,000 young sportspeople from across the county, including over 200 young people from Aylesbury Vale, took part in the games on 7 June, which were hosted this year by Milton Keynes Council.

The youngsters representing Aylesbury Vale had high expectations of bringing home some medals and their confidence was justified when the final results were announced. Four golds were achieved in mixed tag rugby, boccia, kurling and girls’ basketball; three silvers gained in badminton, girls’ football and under 12 athletics; and three bronzes came in the netball, boys’ basketball and under 11 athletics.

The teams were chosen through a series of trials and coaching sessions organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council’s sports development section. For many this was their first taste of competing in an organised sporting event.

The Bucks Youth Games has been running for three years and is regarded as the pinnacle of local competition sport for young people.

The Chairman of AVDC, Councillor Netta Glover, who attended the event on Saturday, said: “It was great to see so many young people with the skill and determination to perform so magnificently. They did exceptionally well, achieving some excellent results and they are not just a credit to their family and school or club, but to the district as a whole.”

Aylesbury Vale District Council offers sporting opportunities for people of all ages and abilities throughout the year. For more information, call 01296 585221.
