Aylesbury Vale District Council has set out its main priorities for the next three years.
The targets, detailed in the Corporate Plan 2008-2011, were approved at Wednesday’s full council meeting.
The Corporate Plan is the district council’s central strategy and sets out how the council will address the main challenges facing the district, working alone and with its partners, for the benefit of residents and service users.
The council’s main priorities for the next three years will be to build communities across the Vale that are vibrant, safe, diverse and inclusive; deliver the housing and economic growth of the district; protect and enhance the local environment and promote the sustainable use of resources; and deliver valued services excellently for all its customers.
AVDC has a responsibility to deliver national initiatives locally but it also needs to respond to the needs of local residents. In developing the new corporate plan, information the council has collected from residents’ surveys has played a big part in influencing its main priorities.
Specific actions for the next three years include:
• Delivering a new theatre in Aylesbury
• Developing a new pilot enterprise and innovation centre in Aylesbury to support new and growing companies, particularly in the knowledge and technology based businesses
• Establishing a ‘Vibrant Villages’ programme to fund projects that maintain key economic and social infrastructure essential to villages, such as shops, pubs, social clubs and halls
• Increasing the rate of recycling and composting to more than 35 per cent
• Working with relevant agencies to minimise the risk and effects of flooding in Buckingham and
other areas at risk
• Setting annual council tax increases below four per cent
Councillor John Cartwright, Leader of the Council, said: “The Corporate Plan has a simple message – it aims to improve the way we live and work. We want everyone in Aylesbury Vale to have a good quality of life with a job, a nice home, leisure facilities, safe communities and the right environment. This strategy brings together all those aims and provides the framework which will help us deliver that vision for local people.”
Copies of the plan will be made available in the council’s area offices and can also be read via the authority’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk from 1 April 2008. For a copy of the plan, please call 01296 585295.
