Councillors John Cartwright and Netta Glover have been re-elected as Aylesbury Vale District Council leader and chairman respectively at the council’s annual meeting.

At the meeting on 14 May, Councillor Cartwright – council leader since 2001 – had his position endorsed for the next 12 months by district councillors.

Councillor Cartwright, who represents the Grendon Underwood ward, will also continue to chair the council’s decision making cabinet, which remains unchanged.

The annual council meeting also appointed the chairmen and vice-chairmen of ten council committees.

Commenting on his re-election as leader, Councillor Cartwright said: “It is an honour to be re-elected to serve as leader of the council. I look forward to the coming year which will present new challenges but also significant opportunities to improve yet further our service delivery and the quality of life for our residents.”

Councillor Glover will serve a second year as chairman, with Councillor Janet Blake elected as vice chairman.

Councillor Glover said after the meeting: “It’s a privilege to be chairman of this council. It’s a great way for me to get to find out about the work others do and to get to know people from all across the district.”

The leader of the council provides the political leadership of the council and will lead the development of the authority’s overall policy stance. The chairman of the council is the ceremonial head of the whole council and its district wide representative at civic and social occasions.

Full details of the membership of the council committees are available on the council’s website.
