The Great Horwood Silver Band
This summer Aylesbury Vale residents can head for the village green, pull up a deckchair and enjoy an afternoon of top quality entertainment as part of this year’s ‘Perfect Village Sunday’ season.
Great Horwood’s acclaimed Silver Band is set to mesmerise audiences when they perform at village fetes across the district over the coming weeks. Under the direction of Roy Lack, the band will perform a stunning selection of brass band favourites to suit all tastes.
The Silver Band has a long and proud tradition dating back to 1888, when a door-to-door collection raised money for the band’s first instruments. Since then, the band has played a major part in village life, as well as making regular appearances at fetes, church services and civic occasions around the Aylesbury Vale area.
Alongside the Silver Band will be performances by children’s entertainers and a whole host of activities and events co-ordinated by local villages.
The first of four Perfect Village Sunday events will take place on Sunday 1 June at Cheddington village green from 2pm. Other events planned are:
• Quainton village green – 8 June (2pm to 5pm)
• Turweston village green – 29 June (2pm to 5pm)
• Tingewick village green – 13 July (2pm to 5pm)
Perfect Village Sunday offers parishes the opportunity to expand on village fetes with music and children’s entertainment. Organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council, the project aims to encourage rural communities to arrange a traditional family event which promotes a strong feeling of community cohesion.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Our summer line-up of Perfect Village Sunday events is one of the most popular fixtures in the Aylesbury Vale events calendar. We are lucky to have so many beautiful outdoor venues in the district to host the performances. What better way is there to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than having a picnic with the family and relaxing to the traditional sounds of a wonderful brass band?”
