Young people in Aylesbury Vale are being given the chance to take part in free skateboarding and multi-media activities.

A mobile skate park and multi-media vehicle will be visiting small rural communities giving young people access to a range of equipment.

The ‘On the Road’ scheme is being jointly funded by Aylesbury Vale District Council and the ‘i-van’ project to provide healthy, fun, social, safe and challenging opportunities for 10 to 16-year-olds.

Young people will have the chance to try out skateboarding, BMX biking and inline skating at the mobile skate park. The equipment includes a 60cm quarter pipe, two fly-off platforms, an angle grid box, two launch ramps, a 60cm flat bank, a grind rail and safety equipment.

Staff will be on hand to provide help and guidance and all safety equipment, such as helmets, will be provided free.

Youngsters will also be able to try their hand at a range of activities in the multi-media i-van. The vehicle has an ICT studio, equipped with a recording studio and computers with the capacity to support music-making, film, animation and photography.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for young people in rural areas to use facilities that wouldn’t normally be available to them. We hope as many youngsters as possible take advantage of this equipment when the skate park and i-van travel to their area.”

The mobile skate park and i-van will be available from 6pm to 8pm at the following venues:
• Nash village hall – 17 November, 15 December, 2 February
• Steeple Claydon village hall – 24 November, 12 January, 9 February
• Pitstone village hall – 1 December, 19 January, 16 February
• Grendon Underwood village hall – 8 December, 26 January
