Councillor Netta Glover, Chairman of AVDC, presents the award to the playcentre staff
A play centre which offers activities to children within Aylesbury has picked up a top quality assurance award.
The Jonathan Page Play Centre, which is run by AVDC, has achieved membership of the Buckinghamshire Children and Young People’s Trust Quality Assurance scheme for organisations delivering childcare services.
The play centre, located in Meadowcroft, is one of only 22 childcare providers in the county to achieve this recognition. It is also the first time that an out of school group has held the award.
To attain the award, the playcentre had to compile a portfolio containing evidence that it met all the assessment criteria, including modules in ‘meeting everyone’s needs’ and ‘management and business’.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “This accreditation formally recognises the excellent standards of childcare provided by the play centre, which will act as an assurance to parents. Above all it is about meeting the needs of children and putting them first. The staff deserve praise for their hard work and commitment, and we are determined to build on this achievement in the future.”
The Jonathan Page Play Centre offers a variety of services for children, including an after school club, a school holiday playscheme and a parent and toddler group. The service is registered with Ofsted and has received many good inspection reports.
The building has recently undergone an extensive £185,000 refurbishment to provide Sure Start Children’s Centre services for local families with children aged under five. New facilities at the centre include a well-equipped family room for small groups and a consultation room.
