Design a logo for new Community Trust

A new charitable trust is being set up to run the council’s leisure centres

Aylesbury Vale District Council has called on residents to seize the opportunity to become involved in a new charitable trust which is being set up to run the council’s leisure centres.

As a first step towards the more active participation of the community in decision-making, people are being asked to come up with ideas for the Aylesbury Vale Community Trust’s logo.

The Trust will take on responsibility for overseeing the strategic development and management of the Aqua Vale Swimming and Fitness Centre in Aylesbury and the Swan Pool in Buckingham on behalf of AVDC.

Although current operators Serco Ltd will continue as day-to-day managers until 2012 (when their contract expires), the Trust will assume responsibility for the development and improvements in the leisure centres.

The Trust’s mission statement is to develop the range, quality, accessibility and affordability of the facilities and services for which it is responsible and work in partnership with other organisations to improve the health and well-being of the community.

The board of voluntary trustees – consisting of local residents and district councillors – are now looking for a new logo that symbolises the Trust’s mission statement and are keen for local residents to be fully involved.

The winner of the design competition will have the choice of a variety of prizes, including swimming lessons and family swim vouchers, and their logo will be used far and wide on letterheads and newsletters.

There are a number of entry conditions:
• Artwork should be designed on white paper no larger than A4 in size
• The design should be no more than four colours
• Colours must be solid blocks, not mixed or overlapping
• No registered trade marks or licensed logos or designs should be included

Miles Buckinghamshire, Chair of the Aylesbury Vale Community Trust, said: “Asking local people to be involved in designing the logo for the trust is a small but significant step in delivering a service in tune with local needs. We have high hopes that residents will come up with some great designs.”

The deadline for entries is 16 May, after which the board of trustees will select a winning entry. The winner will be invited to accept their prize at the official launch of the trust this summer.
