A Wendover businesswoman landed an extra bonus when she visited Aylesbury Vale District Council’s website – she also won a £1,000 prize for her business.

Lindy Smith, who runs an online shop selling cake decorating equipment and supplies, scooped the yearly prize draw for businesses that have registered their details on the council’s online business directory.

When Mrs Smith registered her business, www.lindyscakes.co.uk, she also entered a draw together with hundreds of other businesses to win £1,000 worth of IT training and/or website development.

AVDC and Buckinghamshire County Council developed the online directory to help local businesses promote their products and services to customers and suppliers across the county. It is free to Buckinghamshire businesses to register and provides an easily accessible database of local companies.

The directory currently holds information from nearly 20,000 businesses. Companies can register and update personal details directly, offering people an opportunity to identify local suppliers and raise the profile of their own business.

Businesses registered on the directory also have free access to a vacant land and commercial property database, with details of all the available commercial premises across the county, and can register to receive the district council’s quarterly Vale Economy electronic newsletter and its business welcome pack.

Councillor Michael Edmonds, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “We launched the prize draw to encourage businesses to use the online directory and I’m delighted to say that it seems to be working. The number of businesses registering their details is increasing all the time. I encourage more businesses to use the directory – and don’t forget that you could be the next lucky winner of the £1,000 prize.”
