AVDC gears up for more cold weather

The weather forecast for the weekend and Monday predicts very cold temperatures which could cause further disruption to services.
The latest weather forecast for Aylesbury Vale is that whilst more snow is not forecast for the weekend, temperatures will fall to as low as minus 6 degrees in some places. This could make roads not gritted and pavements very icy.
The County Council is implementing its salt rationing plan to ensure that the county's salt reserves are used in the most effective way possible. From tomorrow, standard gritting schedules will be replaced with a rationing plan. This plan will see salting kept to A and B roads only but with the addition of some key routes into settlements that have been identified as a priority to keep open. More information can be found on www.buckscc.gov.uk or you can call Highways On Call 0845 2302882.
The district council is planning to open its offices as usual on Monday morning with all services provided as normal. However, if the roads and pavements are very icy, the refuse and recycling service may be cancelled or not fully completed.
The council fully appreciates the inconvenience this would cause to residents and a decision of this nature would be a very last resort. Unfortunately, the waste sites are not open on Saturday to enable collections to be slipped a day so the council will instead use two extra vehicles from Tuesday to Friday to catch up on the missed collection.
Updates on the situation can be found on the home page of this website. Please also listen to the local radio. More information on refuse and recycling including the list of recycling banks can be found on
