Refuse crews back on the road

Aylesbury Vale District Council’s refuse and recycling collection service is getting back on target following disruption to the service this week as a result of the harsh weather which caused difficult conditions for drivers and pedestrians.
Refuse and recycling collections were cancelled yesterday (6 January) due to icy conditions on footpaths and some roads. On Monday, a number of refuse collectors had to be treated for injuries as a result of slipping on icy footpaths.
The council’s refuse and recycling crews returned to work today (7 January) and were able to complete their scheduled collections.
The properties affected by the disruption on Tuesday will have their household waste collected next week on Monday 12 January, but the recycling will be collected on the next normal recycling collection day, in a fortnight or four weeks’ time. In the meantime, residents can take their waste and recycling to their nearest household waste and recycling centre in Aylesbury or Buckingham if they’d like to dispose of it sooner.
Nigel Brooke, Corporate Director (Services), said: “Clearly this is not an ideal situation and we apologise for the inconvenience caused to the residents living in the streets that did not receive a collection on Tuesday. Instead of delaying collections further still, we have taken the only practicable decision available by moving onto this week’s scheduled collections.”
With icy conditions set to continue for the rest of the week, residents are advised to listen to local radio stations for news of collections or to check the council’s website in case of further disruption to services.
