Refuse and recycling collections hit by ice

Archived press release

Date Published: 06/01/09

The council has announced that all refuse and recycling collections scheduled for today, Tuesday 6 January, have been cancelled due to icy conditions on footpaths and some roads.

Yesterday, a number of refuse collectors had to be treated for injuries as a result of slipping on icy footpaths.

Corporate Director (Services) Nigel Brooke said, “The weather conditions today do not allow us to send out our collection crews safely, so it is with regret that we have cancelled today’s collections. The properties we have been unable to collect from today will have their household waste collected next week on Monday 12 January, but the recycling will be collected on the next normal recycling collection day, in a fortnight or four weeks’ time. In the meantime, residents can take their waste and recycling to their nearest household waste and recycling centre in Aylesbury or Buckingham if they’d like to dispose of it sooner.

“With icy conditions set to continue for the rest of the week, residents are advised to listen to local radio stations for news of collections or to check the council’s website in case of further disruption to services (www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk). News about cancelled collections will be on the home page. We will update the website as soon as we know if we will be collecting refuse and recycling tomorrow and subsequent days.”
