Housing advice for young people

Young people in Aylesbury Vale who are about to rent a home of their own will reap the benefits of a new information pack launched in the district.
Youth Pack, created by Aylesbury Vale District Council and its partner agencies, has been specially designed for 18 to 25-year-olds who are living on their own for the first time.
Young people may find that moving into their first home can be a worrying time and they may not always know where to go for help and advice. Youth Pack is full of useful information about being a responsible tenant and budgeting for bills, and also has contact details for groups such as Connexions and Youth Concern.
Cllr Michael Edmonds, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Development at AVDC, said: “Young people have been known to lose their tenancies simply because they were unaware of their responsibilities and options. Youth Pack will ensure that they have the information they need and it has been written in a way that is interesting and easy to understand. Even though advice is already available about what to look out for when starting a new tenancy, many young people are unaware of how to access this information. Unfortunately, the consequence for some of not being able to find the information they need at the right time increases their chances of losing their home.”
The Youth Pack is available in council offices, libraries, and at Connexions, or can be downloaded from the council’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
Anyone who’d like to request a free Youth Pack should contact the housing team on 01296 585168 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
