The Core Strategy will guide the district's development for the best part of 20 years
Aylesbury Vale residents have one last chance to have their say on crucial plans that will guide the district’s development for the best part of 20 years.
AVDC has already carried out two major consultations on the draft Core Strategy of its Local Development Framework (LDF), which will steer the development of land for housing, employment, shopping and recreation until 2026.
Now the council has set aside a further six weeks, from 10 June to 22 July, for people to comment on the soundness of the document.
The Core Strategy will be sent to the government for examination by an independent inspector. All comments made by local residents before the deadline date will also be forwarded to the independent inspector for consideration.
As a key element of the LDF, the Core Strategy will need to show how the district will accommodate 26,890 new homes over the next 17 years. Many of these are already allocated, or have planning permission, but locations will need to be found for 9,250 new homes around Aylesbury.
The council has agreed that these should be distributed in three broad areas, one to the north of Bierton between the A413 Buckingham Road and the A418 Wing Road; the second to the south of Bierton, north of the Grand Union canal near Broughton Crossing; and the third to the north of Weston Turville between the A41 Aston Clinton Road and the A413 Wendover Road.
John Byrne, Head of Planning at AVDC, said: “The Core Strategy is the overarching policy document that provides the strategic vision for the future of Aylesbury Vale. It identifies the broad locations, scale and type of development and supporting infrastructure that will take place in the district through to 2026. It also covers community issues such as quality of life, our environment, housing, education, community safety and the economy.
“This is the final opportunity for the public to make their views known to the independent inspector who will decide whether the Core Strategy meets the government’s tests of soundness. Although the council manages this publicity stage, we have to pass any representations straight on to the inspector allocated to conduct the examination into the document and whose recommendations are binding on the council.”
The Core Strategy Proposed Submission document and representation form will be available on the council’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/ldf from 10 June. Copies of the document and representation form will also be available in council offices and district libraries.
Everyone who has made representations to the two previous consultations will receive a letter explaining this stage of the process. To find out more please contact the council’s planning team on 01296 585435 or email avldf@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
