Win a scholarship to Buckingham University

Only a few weeks remain for budding businesspeople in Aylesbury Vale to submit their final entries in a prestigious scholarship competition.

Aylesbury Vale District Council is offering a two-year scholarship, worth over £17,000, to undertake a Business Enterprise honours degree course at the University of Buckingham, which is one of the top 20 business schools in the UK.

Applications, including a business plan, must be submitted before 31 July. The successful candidate will be able to start and run their own business, studying a variety of business subjects, and enhance their entrepreneurship, business and innovation skills.

AVDC’s Assistant Chief Executive, Tracey Aldworth, said: “We have to create thousands of jobs in Aylesbury Vale over the next 15 years to keep up with the planned housing growth. Having a highly skilled workforce helps attract new employers to the area, but a new generation of local entrepreneurs setting up new businesses and growing them in the Vale could be a fantastic boost to job numbers in coming years. Sponsoring the scholarship competition is part of our programme to encourage entrepreneurs and small business growth in the Vale.”

The short-listed candidates will be invited to pitch their proposal to the “Buckingham Angels” venture capital panel during the university’s Enterprise Day on 9 September.

Nigel Adams, Programme Director at the University of Buckingham Business School, said: “We have already received some excellent submissions, but there is still time to send in entries. The competition is a fantastic opportunity for a budding businessperson to start up and run their own business and achieve an honours degree. I’d like to encourage anyone with a passion for business to take part.”
