State-of-the-art play facilities have been officially unveiled in Aylesbury’s Edinburgh Playing Fields.

Pupils of Mandeville and Oak Green Schools turned out in force to open the new play space, off Churchill Avenue, with staff from Aylesbury Vale District Council’s green spaces team.

New facilities include a children’s play area aimed at two to 12 year-olds, a multi-use games area suitable for football and basketball, teenage play and fitness equipment, and a shelter fitted with solar powered lighting.

AVDC asked local schoolchildren, councillors, residents and community organisations what equipment they would most like to see provided, and fed their ideas into the designs for the new play space.

The £191,000 project was part-funded by some of the £304,000 grant the district council received from the Big Lottery Fund to improve children’s play areas. The development has also been supported by AVDC, the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust and developer contributions.

Lesley Davies, Green Spaces Team Manager at AVDC, said: “Our successful bid to the Big Lottery Fund has helped us provide fantastic new play facilities in the Edinburgh Playing Fields. I hope lots of people enjoy the new play equipment which forms another part of our commitment to encourage children to play.”
