Classical music lovers will not want to miss this year’s Music in Quiet Places concert series.
Continuing its tradition of bringing professional classical concerts to some of the most idyllic settings in Aylesbury Vale, Music in Quiet Places returns for its 11th year with a fantastic programme devised by artistic director Robert Secret – a conductor and musician of international status.
The concert series, organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council, is designed to bring rural communities together and is the ideal opportunity to see some of the finest classical musicians in the country with family and friends.
Launching this year’s programme is The Maurizi String Quartet, who will be performing chamber music by Mozart at St Mary’s Parish Church in Thornborough on 23 May.
The second concert of the series includes Welsh folksong settings and the String Trio by Schubert, performed by Rowena Bass, Julian Metzger and Gillian and Robert Secret. St Mary’s Church in Ashendon will play host to the concert on 30 May.
On 6 June, The Linford Ensemble will be performing at St Mary’s Church in Haddenham. This dynamic group of performers, a sextet comprising flute, oboe, violin, viola, cello and piano, offers a varied programme of much loved repertoire including music by Mozart, Arnold Bliss and Madeleine Drew.
Members of The Orchestra of Stowe Opera will be performing the likes of Bach, Telemann and Greig at All Saints’ Church in Wing on 13 June. They will be joined by conductor Robert Secret and cellist Julian Metzger.
The penultimate concert of the series will take place at The Church of St James the Great in Aston Abbotts on 20 June. The performance will include music by composers such as Bax, Bruch, Scarlatti and Mozart.
Finally on 27 June, The Church of St Mary the Virgin in Mursley will be treated to a vocal concert featuring award-winning soprano Lianne-Marie Skriniar.
Dan Clucas, Arts Development Manager at AVDC, said: “A Music in Quiet Places event is a wonderful way to experience exciting classical music of the highest quality in some of the most beautiful villages in the Vale, offering an intimacy between audience and performer which is seldom found in more formal settings. Not only that, tickets are affordable and the programme is very accessible. In many ways Music in Quiet Places is almost like a best kept secret that we really feel more people should know about.”
Before each performance, there will be a free guided walk led by a local historian. These walks are available to everyone, not just ticket holders, and set off from the concert venue at 6.30pm.
Each concert begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7.50 or £3 for Passport to Leisure card holders and under 16s, and can be bought by calling 01296 585210.
