Make a wish and donate to the Chairman’s charities

Archived press release

Date Published: 27/11/09

Your change can go a long way in supporting two local charities as the Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council launches her Wishing Well Appeal.

Councillor Janet Blake will be raising vital funds for the Buckinghamshire branch of the British Red Cross and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

The fountain in Aylesbury’s Friars Square Shopping Centre will be used as a wishing well and shoppers will be encouraged to donate their loose change.

Councillor Blake will be launching her charity appeal in the shopping centre at noon on 2 December. She will be joined by representatives from her chosen charities and cast members from this year’s Civic Centre pantomime.

The Buckinghamshire branch of the British Red Cross is raising funds to buy and equip a rapid response vehicle to serve Aylesbury Vale.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People aim to improve the lives of deaf people through the training and placement of specially trained dogs. Around 70 per cent of dogs entering the scheme are selected from rescue centres or similar, offering safe and loving homes to otherwise unwanted dogs. The charity does much of its training at a centre based outside Princes Risborough in Saunderton.

Councillor Blake said: “The people of Aylesbury Vale have always supported the Chairman’s charities generously and I would ask everyone to spare a thought for others when they are out shopping over the next few weeks and give to the collection – every little bit counts!”

Peter Organ, Centre Manager of Friars Square Shopping Centre, said: “I am delighted to be able to assist the Chairman’s Wishing Well Appeal, particularly as it is supporting local charities. I am confident that the people of Aylesbury will be generous.”

The Wishing Well Appeal will run until mid-January. For more information, contact the Chairman’s office on 01296 585009 or email jroffe@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
