Try out tricks and jumps on the mobile skate park
Free activities are being put on to entertain young people in rural communities across Aylesbury Vale.
A mobile skate park and multi-media vehicle will be visiting villages over the next few months to give youngsters access to a range of equipment.
The ‘On the Road’ scheme, which has been organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council, is aimed at providing healthy and fun opportunities for 10 to 16-year-olds.
Young people will have an opportunity to try out their tricks and jumps on the mobile skate park, which has a 60cm quarter pipe, two fly-off platforms, an angle grid box, two launch ramps, a 60cm flat bank and a grind rail.
The ramps are set up and manned by trained staff and free safety equipment will be available. Skateboards will also be available to borrow.
Youngsters will also be able to try their hand at a range of activities in the ‘i-van’. The multi-media vehicle has an ICT studio, equipped with a recording studio and computers with the capacity to support music-making, film, animation and photography.
The i-van and AVDC are working in partnership to deliver the On the Road programme. Funding for the i-van has come from the SEEDA (South East Economic Development Agency) Rural Access to Services programme.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The skate park and i-van will provide hours of fun for young people across Aylesbury Vale. It is very important that we have access to mobile equipment that can be taken to isolated villages. The skate park and i-van will give youngsters living in rural areas the chance to try out fun equipment on their doorsteps. Aylesbury Vale is a very rural area and I am glad we have been able to provide facilities that will help young
people access fun activities.”
The mobile skate park and i-van will be available from 6pm to 8pm at the following venues:
• Whitchurch playing fields – 2 November
• Edlesborough recreation ground – 9 November
• Marsh Gibbon village hall – 30 November
• Stewkley recreation ground – 7 December
• Springhill estate, Grendon Underwood – 14 December
Further dates will be arranged after Christmas. For more information visit www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/sports or contact 01296 585195.
