Sign up for dodgeball tournament

Date Published: 12/10/09

Local residents are being urged to sign up for a dodgeball tournament taking place in Aylesbury this month.

The tournament is being run by Aylesbury Vale District Council in partnership with the Healthy Living Centre and Milton Keynes Dodgeball Club.

It will take place at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on Sunday 18 October from 1pm. The total cost is just £20 per team.

The tournament is open to residents aged 16 and over. No previous experience is necessary and all rules will be explained on the day. Teams must be mixed and have at least six players.

There are many variations of this fast-paced game, each involving players trying to avoid being hit by a ball thrown by opponents. Players are out when struck by an opponent by a direct throw or if an opponent catches their throw cleanly.

Each game ends when all players on one team are out or when time expires, with in the later case, the team with most players left being the winners.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “Dodgeball has a broad appeal as it can be played by anyone. Like many court games, its good for fitness and agility too.”

Anyone who wants to register for the tournament should contact Abbi McMullen, Community Activity Development Officer, on 01296 431580 or email amcmullen@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
