Fly-tipping in Buckingham
Aylesbury Vale District Council has warned fly-tippers that they face prosecution after piles of tree cuttings were dumped in Buckingham.
The fly-tipping was discovered on the Bone Hill path which runs between Sandhurst Drive and Cornflower Place.
This is the latest fly-tipping incident to blight the area. Piles of grass and shrub cuttings were strewn along the path last November.
Councillor Kevin McPartland, Cabinet Member for Civic Amenities at AVDC, said that communities have to work with the council to rid the district of the blight of fly-tipping. “The council spends hundreds of thousands of pounds a year clearing up after fly-tippers,” he said. “We want to bring the people who do this sort of thing to justice; our message is that communities do not have to put up with it. We can prosecute if we have the evidence, but we need people to come forward as witnesses.”
People caught dumping rubbish illegally can be arrested, fined up to £50,000 and be imprisoned. Householders and businesses can be fined up to £5,000 if they don’t make sure that contractors taking their waste are registered waste carriers.
Councillor McPartland added: “I appeal to residents to report any fly-tipping to the council. If anyone knows anything about the dumped rubbish on the Bone Hill path, then please get in touch.”
Residents who see someone tipping rubbish are asked to make a note of the time and date, location, description of waste tipped, vehicle registration number and, if possible, a description of the fly-tippers themselves. These details can be passed on to AVDC as soon as possible by calling 01296 585395 or sending an email to gduguid@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
