The Energy Saving Trust supported by Aylesbury Vale District Council is mailing local residents a letter in September explaining the benefits of installing loft and cavity wall insulation and offering a free, no obligation survey in the home.
Insulation can cut heating bills, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and help keep houses warm in the winter. In fact, the Energy Saving Trust estimates that the average household could save £115 with cavity wall insulation and £150 from installing 270mm (10.5 inches) of loft insulation* - the current recommended depth.
All residents including those who don’t receive a letter can ring the Energy Saving Trust free advice line on 0800 512 012. Funded by the government, the Energy Saving Trust gives free impartial expert advice on energy saving measures like loft and cavity wall insulation. They can also tell residents about grants and offers available and put people in touch with local professional installers.
Loft insulation can be installed from as little as £149.00. Cavity wall insulation usually costs around £500 to have professionally installed, but in some areas can cost as little as £125.00. Insulation will start saving energy the day it is installed, and it will keep saving money for as long as a home is standing.
Insulation may be available free for the over 70s or to people who receive certain benefits.
* Based on a gas heated three bedroom semi-detached house without any loft insulation. If your home already has some loft insulation you could save around £45 a year if you top it up to the recommended level. Loft insulation prices based on best offers available at the time of writing but may vary over time.
