Aylesbury Vale District Council will be opening a brand new 40-space, long-stay car park in Buckingham on 31 August.

The facility at Stratford Fields has been created in partnership with Buckingham Athletic FC. This has allowed the council to designate around 80 per cent of the parking spaces at Cornwalls Meadow as short-stay for shoppers, in accordance with the wishes of town centre traders.

The new car park has a flat fee of £2.50. Public parking will be available from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and between 8am and 12.30pm on Saturdays.

Councillor Kevin McPartland, Cabinet Member for Civic Amenities at AVDC, said: “This is a great example of partnership work in Buckingham. We are grateful that Buckingham Athletic FC agreed for AVDC to utilise part of the site at Stratford Fields for long stay parking. This new facility will be of great benefit to residents, shoppers and visitors to Buckingham, offering convenient parking with easy access to the town centre.”

Charles Bassano, Secretary of Buckingham Athletic Sports and Social Club and Buckingham Athletic FC, said: “The resultant facility is even better than expected and will not only be a massive benefit to the various sports, social and football clubs which use the clubhouse and grounds but also to the whole community of Buckingham.

“Our clubhouse was rebuilt earlier this year and the impressive building, together with the new car park, have totally transformed its appearance and appeal. We are proud to have been part of such an excellent project and must pay tribute to AVDC for the way in which they conducted the negotiations.”

Darren Kimber, Chairman of the Buckingham Traders' Association (BTA), added: “The introduction of the new long stay car park at Stratford Fields is a long awaited addition to car parking in Buckingham. Its introduction will in turn mean that more car parking spaces at Cornwalls Meadow are now available for shoppers and visitors to the town.

“The Buckingham Traders Association were very pleased that Aylesbury Vale District Council has managed to offer one hour free parking at their Cornwalls Meadow car park between Mondays and Saturdays between the hours of 8.30am and 5pm and offer free car parking for shoppers and visitors to our historic town on Sundays, bank holidays and after 5pm Monday to Saturday.”
