Aylesbury Waterside Theatre to open 12 October 2010

The Waterside Theatre will open on 12 October 2010.

Aylesbury Vale District Council and the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) have announced that Aylesbury Waterside Theatre will open on Tuesday 12 October 2010 for its first professional performance, preceded by a programme of community events.

Councillor John Cartwright, Leader of the Council, said: “This is very memorable day for AVDC. We know that the new theatre is not just going to be a great venue for entertainment. It’s a symbol of what we want to achieve for Aylesbury in the future and something which will continue to attract new businesses to the area, providing many new jobs itself and more visitors to the town.”

AVDC confirmed ATG as the preferred management contractor for the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre last year following their successful tender bid, marking the start of a six year operating arrangement with Chief Executive Elizabeth Adlington at the helm.

Councillor Cartwright continued: “Selecting the theatre operator was a very important decision for AVDC. From the outset, we committed ourselves to building the very best theatre we could which meant also having the best management company on board. In recent weeks, we’ve been getting to know ATG and Elizabeth, and we’re absolutely delighted with our decision. We know it was the right one and that under Elizabeth’s leadership, the theatre is going to be a fantastic success.”

Elizabeth Adlington added: “Today marks the first milestone in the history of a venue which we are thrilled to be a part of and confident will become an intrinsic part of the town and an important cultural resource to the people of Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire. Announcing an opening date is just the beginning, we are working hard to bring an exciting, inclusive programme of shows to you for the first season which we are looking forward to announcing in the spring.”
