Improvement works to public toilets

Archived press release

Date Published: 17/02/10

A scheme to improve public toilets in Aylesbury’s Upper Hundreds multi-storey car park is set to begin.

During the next few months the disabled and female toilets will be re-built and the male toilets refurbished in order to bring them up to a modern standard.

Due to this improvement work, all of the toilets in the car park will be temporarily out of use from Monday 22 February. The new toilets are due to open in June.

Alternative public toilets may be found in the Civic Centre car park or Anchor Lane car park, just a short walk down Britannia Walk (by Wilkinsons).

The improvement work is part of Aylesbury Vale District Council’s project to relocate the Shopmobility service to the Upper Hundreds car park. Contractors moved on-site in January to prepare for the construction of a brand new, purpose-built Shopmobility unit.

The new premises will include a more user-friendly waiting room and there will be dedicated parking spaces for Shopmobility users. Pedestrian access will also be improved at the Britannia Walk entrance to the car park.

Councillor Kevin McPartland, Cabinet Member for Civic Amenities, said: “We appreciate that for a short time there will be some inconvenience for people. However, we are endeavouring to keep the public informed with notices on site during the construction period. In the long run, the car park will have far more modern and appropriate facilities.”

The council apologies for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause. Anyone requiring further information about public toilet facilities in Aylesbury can visit the council’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk or call 01296 585235.
