Date Published: 11/01/10

Aylesbury Vale District Council is helping the over 50s kick-start their fitness plans and stick to their New Year’s resolutions to get fit and healthy.

The council’s Nifty Fifty sessions offer a variety of indoor sports for older people to help improve their level of fitness.

The low cost activities, which take place at Cheddington Village Hall, the Winslow Centre and Wendover Memorial Hall, include short mat bowls, short tennis, table tennis and badminton, as well as an aerobic warm up and gentle stretching exercises. Coaches will be on hand to supervise and give encouragement and advice.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The Nifty Fifty sessions are a great chance for people to have a go at new sports, or return to those they used to play, in a welcoming and encouraging environment. They will help give great boost to motivation, so we urge as many people as possible to explore this opportunity to get fit and stay fitter.”

The sessions are held every Wednesday between 1pm and 2.30pm at Wendover Memorial Hall, and every Thursday from 10.15am to 12.15pm at Cheddington Village Hall. There are also sessions at the Winslow Centre every Friday from 10am to 12pm.

Each session costs £3 per person. For more information about the sessions, visit www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/sports or call 01296 585195.
