Challenge yourself: the sky’s the limit!

Archived press release

Date Published: 06/07/10

There’s an activity out there for everyone: whether you want to take part in an activity with friends or feel the burn, there’s something for you!

There are 100’s of activities locally for you to try. Reactivate Bucks, the campaign that connects people to 100’s of sports and activities across the county, has lots on offer this month.

Why not test out the boot camp or military fitness session, try the wheelchair rugby or basketball sessions or get training for the NSPCC Half Marathon of Chiltern 3 Peaks Challenge in aid of the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home. If they’re not for you then check out all the events happening as part of the “Open Weekend” and join in the countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games!

For those seeking a challenge there’s a wide choice of activities to choose from during Open Weekend 2010. Open Weekend, supported by BP, is a series of exciting sporting, arts and cultural challenges taking place across the UK.

The theme for this year’s Open Weekend is “challenge yourself”, creating an opportunity for everyone to set a new personal best by trying something new or taking an existing interest to the next level. During the weekend there will be lots to do in Aylesbury including taking part in the free “Let’s Dance” and “Let’s Run” Challenges on Sunday 25 July.

Whether it’s running round Aylesbury town centre before celebrating victory at Vale Park or taking part in a mass dance created by local people, you are sure to have fun. See aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/getinvolved for more information.

Danny Crates, Paralympic Gold Medallist and special guest at this year’s Bucks Youth Games, is a great supporter of Open Weekend. “For the general public London 2012 is still two years away which must feel like a lifetime. But for anyone involved there’s just a short period of time left with athletes now organising their final preparations. Events taking place during Open Weekend will start to make the Games feel real for everyone and will be an exciting part of the two year countdown. I would urge everyone in Bucks to get involved and enjoy themselves.”

Full details on ways to get fit, feel healthier and have fun this month are all available on: www.reactivatebucks.org or you can call the Reactivate Bucks team on 01296 585215. For details on events taking place around the country during Open Weekend see: www.london2012.com/openweekend.
