Bucks councils join together and launch new magazine

This week all 215,000 households across Buckinghamshire will receive a copy of the new joint magazine produced by Buckinghamshire County Council and their local district council (Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe).

There are four regional versions of the magazine - one for each district council area. This magazine replaces each of the current district council magazines and the Buckinghamshire Times.

The new magazine will save the council tax payers of Buckinghamshire around £120,000 each year. Each magazine costs four pence to design, 11 pence to print and eight pence to deliver.

As well as saving money, the aim of the joint magazine is to provide a single, authoritative, source of information to residents about council policies and decisions and what their council tax is spent on; provide news about issues and events in the area that affect residents; and encourage residents to take part in the democratic process and consultation exercises.

The magazine will be issued four times a year in June, September, November and March 2011. The advertising within the magazine will help to offset the costs of production.

The majority of the magazines will be delivered unwrapped and unaddressed by Royal Mail and a small quantity will be delivered addressed to more remote areas on each of the district boundaries.

Each council has signed up for a trial period of one year. Before the year is out, the councils will jointly conduct research with their readers to see what they make of the magazine. The results of the survey and the review will be presented to each council and a decision made on the future of the joint magazine early next year.
