Council recognises Armed Forces Day

Archived press release

Date Published: 17/06/10

Aylesbury Vale District Council is all set to ensure that military men, women and veterans get a very special day of celebrations on Saturday 26 June – Armed Forces Day.

This unique day is an opportunity for communities in the Vale to thank the Armed Forces, past and present, for their brave service, and recognise the outstanding contribution they have made, and continue to make, to society.

To mark the event in Aylesbury, there will be a parade by local army, air and sea cadet forces, dignitaries, veterans and members of the clergy. They will be accompanied by the Corunna Band and Bugles of Oxfordshire (The Rifles) Army Cadet Force.

The parade will form up underneath the Arches at the bottom of Market Square and set off at 10.45am. It will make its way to Kingsbury where cadets will form a guard for inspection.

This is the second year that a national Armed Forces Day has been held to honour the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, both veterans and those still serving, Service families, the cadet forces and war widows and widowers.

Councillor Janet Blake, Chairman of the Council, said: “It is important that the Armed Forces are shown support and gratitude for what they achieve on their missions. They and their predecessors enable us to live our lives today in peace and freedom, something we should all be grateful for. I would encourage people to come to Aylesbury on 26 June and take part in Armed Forces Day and show their support for our brave men and women and their families.”
