Date Published: 04/03/10

The over 50s are invited to find out more about making healthier lifestyle choices at two free events in Aylesbury Vale this month.

Aylesbury Vale District Council will be hosting information and wellbeing fairs in Brill and Haddenham to help promote older people’s independence.

The events have been organised not only to help the over 50s achieve and maintain good health, but also to provide information about, and access to, the many local services and activities available to improve quality of life.

Visitors will be able to pick up tips on how to stay active, community safety advice, plus information about housing and money matters. There will also be Nintendo Wii games and a guided walk led by NHS Bucks.

Organisations supporting the events include Buckinghamshire County Council, Thames Valley Police, Age Concern Bucks and the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust.

Councillor Pam Pearce, Cabinet Member for Community Matters, said: “These events are an opportunity to showcase a wealth of information on local services and activities in an accessible and interactive way. Residents will be able to pick up tips about having a healthy and happy life. I would encourage people to come along and have a look at what’s on offer.”

The information and wellbeing fairs will be held at the Memorial Hall in Brill on 11 March and at the Village Hall in Haddenham on 23 March. The events are open between 10.30am and 2pm and residents are invited to drop in at any time and browse around the many and varied stalls.

A free lunch will be provided and if residents living in the villages to the west of Aylesbury (Stone to Boarstall) need transport they should email lmaddocks@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk or call 01296 585364.
