Aylesbury Vale District Council is seeking residents’ views on whether it should include commercial advertising on its website.

Advertising on the AVDC website is being considered by the council as part of its corporate aim to keep council tax low.

The scheme AVDC is looking into is from a company who source and host advertising on other council websites.

The adverts would be from national companies mainly and would be placed at the top of AVDC website pages, which may mean that customers have to scroll further down a web page to find the information they require.

Adverts would be placed on pages that the advertising company chooses, rather than on every page.

Neil Blake, Cabinet Member for Resources said: “This is just one of the measures that Aylesbury Vale District Council is considering to help ensure its share of the council tax is kept low during this difficult financial time. While we are keen on the income we could derive from this scheme we want residents to be clear that we cannot endorse or guarantee any of the products or services advertised.

“We are also concerned that we do not foist a change on those who use the website regularly in case it is detrimental to their experience - so are keen to get the views of local people.
